  1. hello Mitch,

    have a good day,
    tabo

    • Hi Peter,

That’sd fine mate, as long as it’s not in direct sunlight…..it doesn’t take long for them to dry out and cook in the baking hot sun.

      Regards,
      Mitch.

    • Hi, sorry I’m just waiting on the next ooth hatch…..hopefully i’ll have something again in 2-3 weeks!

      Fingers crossed 😀

      Regards,
      Mitch.

        • Is this regarding Orchids?

If so, nothing yet mate, sorry.

The ooth i thought was due, hasn’t hatched, not sure if it’s going to now 🙁

Have others, but they’re not due for a few weeks yet, sorry man,

          Mitch.

    • Hi, I don’t have any Orchids available at the moment, sorry about that.

I’m currently just waiting for the next ooths to hatch.

      Regards,
      Mitch.

  2. Hi, we try to keep the temperature around 18-20C to save on heating bills (and the planet!) – does this mean we can’t keep Mantises? Or is there a way to keep them warm? Thanks, Tony

    • Hi Tony, unfortunately, that’s just too cold, especially for a daytime temperature.

That temperature range is okay for just the overnight period, but during the day you’re looking to achieve 23-25C on average. This can be achieved by using a heat mat (5-11W is fine), these can be bought online.

      Regards,
      Mitch.

  3. Hi,

Just wondering what’s the average life span of an orchid mantis? Also can you recommend some good/non expensive heat mats? My flat is usually around 20 degrees but can’t afford to have heating on constantly at the minute

    • Hi Georgia,

So male orchids will live for between 6-12months (from start to finish), females can live considerably longer, between 9-24 months (from start to finish).

Sorry I can’t be more specific, but there really is a lot of factors to consider when trying to predict any insect’s lifespan.

Heat mats can be purchased from many online sites, just Google low wattage heat mats, looking for something in the range of 7-11W. Usually only cost around £5-10.

      Regards,
      Mitch.
